HYDRAULIC VALVE. SHIP CROSSING STRUCTURE, ST. PETERSBURG
The S-2 navigation passage in the flood protection complex of St. Petersburg. Hydraulic gate. When a flood signal is received, the flow part of the channel is completely blocked by a gate, which is extended upwards using hydraulic mechanisms. The barrier weighing 2.37 thousand tons blocks the entire channel and rises to 4.4 m above sea level. More than 7 meters remain under water (of which about 0.2 m is in the gate chamber). After the flood threat has been lifted, the gate returns to its stationary position.
A drawbridge is thrown over S-2. Its height above the water is 16 m, in special cases, in just 2-3 minutes, the bridge can be raised another 9 m using an electric drive, a system of cables and counterweights. All lifting equipment is hidden in the supports.
