FLAGPOLE IN THE WESTERN PART OF KRESTOVSKY ISLAND, ST. PETERSBURG
The flagpole body consists of nine truncated cone-shaped sections, each 10.8 meters long, and an upper tenth section with a slewing ring and a hatch for servicing the flag raising and lowering system. Vertical ladders for maintenance personnel are provided inside the tower.
The flag, measuring 30 m x 20 m (H), is raised to its upper position using a winch mounted on a reinforced concrete foundation inside the tower. The upper tenth section of the tower is equipped with hatches and brackets for servicing the slewing ring and skylights.
Slewing ring:
allows the flag to rotate horizontally 360° (depending on wind direction);
The top is protected from precipitation by a truncated spherical structure with a diameter of 1.36 m.
To reduce the sway of the top of the flagpole tower, a 1.2-ton vibration damper is installed inside at a height of 87.0 m. The lower section of the flagpole is mounted on a massive reinforced concrete pile foundation, ensuring the stability of the flagpole body under wind loads.
