HIEN LUONG BRIDGE, VIETNAM
Motorway Bridge Hien Luong over Ben Hai River was conceived as for the purpose of motorists comfort as well as for historical landmark preservation (‘17th Parallel Bridge’ was that former border during the war bisected between Southern and Northern Vietnam).
New bridge deck section was fulfilled via RC pre-stressed box girder being installed by the method of Cyclical Longitudinal Launching.
The main principle of deck section installation consists of sequential concreting of eleven segments within site station of right river bank with afterward constant and smooth launching. Diaphragm concreting procedure was accomplished next to deck structure installation into proper design position.
For the purpose of cross-sections formation the set of exterior with interior formwork was designated via special trolleys at construction site area.
Pre-stressing performance within station area was completed per each deck segment. Tendon stressing was the matter regarding each of fulfilled consecutive deck segment.
Launching nose of 28 meters long was implemented for the entire installation procedure without fulfillment of any intermediate piers.
The performance of Cyclical Longitudinal Launching was accomplished by means of two hydraulic jacks per 240 tons of each one being located on anchor piers. Technological apertures were arranged for the convenience of launching operation. Those useful windows were preserved later for the further bridge service period.
On each pier vertical hydraulic jack of 500 tons was placed in case of additional jacking event. The entire piers were equipped via side stoppers to ensure deck segment movement along the bridge crossing middle axis.
Total SAC&D equipment being designated for the above project was accurately manufactured in factories of Saint-Petersburg and later delivered by sea transportation directly to Vietnam.
